At its Sept. 18 meeting the Cumberland Town Council approved a set of routine licenses, ordinances and appointments. Highlights include approval of special event and entertainment licenses, adoption of two ordinances, confirmation of a staff appointment, purchase authorization for a water department vehicle, and adoption of a revised Community Health and Resource Manual.
Licenses: The council approved a special‑event entertainment license for the Cumberland Hill PTO’s Color Dash on Oct. 4 after a short presentation by Amy Cecil, president of the Cumberland Hill PTO, who said the event is "a super fun event for our students" and that the PTO raises about $10,000 during the event. The council also approved an entertainment license for Adams Farm Stand (495 Southern Brown Road) to operate a beer garden Fridays–Sundays from Sept. 20 to Oct. 27; approval is conditional on EMS, fire and police sign‑offs.
Ordinances and hearings: The council adopted ordinance 24‑20 (door‑to‑door solicitation) after a public hearing and an amendment to replace the defined term on line 72; resident Judy Harrington Sweet testified in support, saying aggressive solicitations have occurred "after dark." The council also adopted ordinance 24‑21, amending animal control fines to align certain penalties with state‑authorized fees (e.g., increasing specified fines). The zoning amendment to add the Beagle Club Overlay District (ordinance 24‑23) was tabled to the Oct. 2 meeting for notice issues.
Appointment and claims: Council confirmed the appointment of Corianne Abrow/Corey Abreu (transcript spells both) to a marketing assistant position at OCYL (7–0). The council referred a claim from Donna Currier to the bridal subcommittee for review.
