Exeter council approves multiple DPW bids: fuel tank, pavement treatment, chipper; awards basement waterproofing

At its Dec. 2 meeting, the Exeter Town Council approved multiple Department of Public Works procurement items and facilities contracts meant to support operations and preserve town infrastructure.
DPW reported the fleet is shifting away from diesel toward gasoline vehicles and recommended installing an on-site, above-ground gasoline storage unit (described as a 1,000-gallon "fuel cube") near the diesel island to streamline refueling and emergency response. The council voted to award the bid for a stationary fuel tank.
The council also approved an MRT penetrating pavement treatment and awarded the paving bid to Marino for the upcoming season; DPW described the MRT product as a penetrating rejuvenator used in the town’s pavement preservation program to extend road life before surface treatments such as chip seal.
For equipment, the council discussed replacing an aging municipal wood chipper. Because replacement units are reportedly backordered about six months, the council voted to award the chipper bid but made the purchase contingent on funding availability, allowing DPW to keep the bid open until funds are secured.
On facilities, the council evaluated proposals for basement waterproofing at Town Hall. After a site visit and technical discussion of the noisy, multi-day work (chiseling and installing a patented trough/pump and dehumidifier system), the council awarded the contract to Dry Zone at $40,202.50.
Separately, the council approved lowering the speed limit on Woods Road (a narrow road near school and park areas) to 20 miles per hour and authorized additional signage as needed for safety.
