Mitchell Food Pantry reports serving 253 households, feeding 864 people for Thanksgiving

During citizen input, Karen Pooley representing the Mitchell Food Pantry reported the pantry had planned to distribute 200 Thanksgiving boxes but ended up serving 253 households after additional donations arrived. Pooley said volunteers prepared boxes that contained perishable and nonperishable items including carrots, apples, onions, instant potatoes, canned goods, gravy, stuffing and a pumpkin pie; she estimated the value of a meal at $53.63 and said the distribution reached 864 people (356 children, 343 adults and 35 seniors).
Pooley thanked the mayor, city council and the traffic department for assistance and noted most households served were from Mitchell with others coming from nearby towns.
Council members thanked Pooley and commended volunteers for the effort.
