Yankton city manager lists fall events, updates Westside Park pickleball project; commission proclaims Welcoming Week

City Manager Amy Leon told the Yankton City Commission on Sept. 9 the administration is coordinating several community events and that work on the Westside Park pickleball courts is proceeding but contingent on paint availability and weather.
"The wind screening nets have been purchased, and we have those. We also have a fencing company secured," Leon said, adding resurfacing depends on the delivery of a specific paint color chosen by local pickleball players and that Midwest Striping will perform the surfacing. She said the city hopes to complete fencing and resurfacing before winter and, if delays occur, the project could move to next year. (City Manager Amy Leon)
Mayor Mason Strom read a proclamation declaring the week of Sept. 2024 as Welcoming Week, urging residents to support newcomers and community diversity. Sarah Brandt of Connecting Cultures thanked the commission and described partnerships tied to Welcoming Week, including a Mount Marty tailgate and a Sept. 29 mini-docuseries screening at the Dakota Theater. "Connecting Cultures is happy to partner with all of you to continue to...make it equitable and accessible for everyone that's here in our community," Brandt said.
