Authority staff gave several operational updates during the Nov. 21 meeting that the board said it will monitor over winter as it prepares for the next season.
Superintendent Jim Shell described Phase 2 of the bunker renovation (including moving the 11th tee to reduce shots toward the tennis courts), invasive-species removal authorized by Norwalk, and winter green protections. "We're just doing odds and ends around the shop...We're out on the course removing a bunch of invasive species that Norwalk has permitted everyone to remove," he said.
Paul Alexander and General Manager Jim Holliday described a transition for the on-site restaurant into a destination a la carte operation for winter months, and staff reported implementation and training for a new POS and management software (4Up) alongside the existing GolfNow booking engine.
Holliday also updated the authority on a neighbor complaint at 17 Chipping Lane, adjacent to the 18th hole. A higher net had been installed earlier this year; Holliday said that net installation cost approximately $10,000 and that a recent golf ball struck the neighbor’s vinyl siding. He said he had consulted with the authority’s attorney and will share the correspondence with members. "They were able to get their vinyl siding installer to come and replace that piece of siding," he said, adding the authority is focused on finding a durable solution.
Board members asked staff to circulate the attorney correspondence and to continue coordinating site-specific mitigations (netting adjustments, placement changes and signage). The authority also discussed updating website information and coordinating with supporters and tennis partners on linked web presences as a separate short-term action this winter.
The authority agreed to continue monitoring capital billing timing and the course’s maintenance schedule as staff finalize winter projects.
