Members of the bid board reported on last week's meeting and outlined next steps to guide how bid funds are spent. Jerry Thompson volunteered to conduct a survey of motels to ask how they would like the funds used — for facility improvements, promotion, or events — and staff will compile the results.
Staff said they will evaluate a sports tourism index platform (a system that catalogs city facilities and matches them to event opportunities) and a separate tool to tabulate facility attributes to identify events Mitchell could bid on. The bid board has designated $150,000 for the committee's use in 2025; staff will bring a comparison of peer cities' bid‑board structures and spending to the next meeting.
Committee members also noted Mitchell was awarded the state aid swimming tournament for February after Rapid City relinquished it, which could bring larger groups and more travel to the city.
