Council approves Palace/Palos City Brewing licenses; planning staff notes pending TIF application

The City Council approved alcohol-license applications for Palace/Palos City Brewing LLC (applications included on- and off-sale wine and cider and malt-beverage licenses). Applicant representative Doug Beck told the council he expects opening this fall and that landscaping and exterior work will start in the coming days. "I would say it's this fall yet, hopefully," Beck said during the hearing.
City staff advised the council that the Police Department raised no concerns about the licensing application and recommended approval. Staff also notified the council that a TIF application related to the project is pending and will be brought before the council in the near future.
Why it matters: The brewery and its associated redevelopment activities (including a pending TIF request) represent economic development and downtown investment. Council noted that TIF discussions would follow separate proceedings and documentation.
What happened: After applicant remarks and brief questions from council members about opening date and landscaping, council members moved and approved the license motions. Staff will process licensing paperwork and track the pending TIF application as it proceeds through review.
