Deputy Chief Coppola updated the board on training activities at the Dec. 17 meeting, saying the division completed practical rescue operations, high‑pressure airbag drills, and an emergency-vehicle-operator course for city drivers. Coppola said the department recently participated in a leadership-and-human-performance course and has scheduled wellness and annual refresher training slated for early 2025.
He said the EMT/EMR refresher course will run in January as five sessions over five days per shift, with CPR recertification running concurrently. Coppola also said the promotional testing calendar is set: the deputy chief promotional test is in planning for early spring 2025, and the captain promotion test, including an oral component, is scheduled for Jan. 9 in the EOC.
Commissioners praised the training work and noted strong performance by personnel during recent structure-fire responses. Coppola said activity levels have been high and that training results are evident in recent responses.
