The Muskegon County Community Development and Strategic Planning Committee voted to adopt the countyrecreation facilities, open space, and greenway plan for 2025 through 2029 and to submit the plan to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.
Committee members moved and seconded the adoption on Dec. 12, 2024. Staff noted the plan resulted from a multi-month process that included five public meetings and an open comment period by phone, in person and by email. "We did have public comment. We had 5 public meetings and then we were open for public comment via telephone, in person or email," staff said, and added that a recent comment received that week would be added to the plan before submission. Staff told the committee the plan is due in February, but the county hoped to submit it by the end of the year or early January.
The committee approved the resolution of adoption by voice vote and directed staff to submit the plan to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources as requested in the motion.
Why it matters: The plan provides a multi-year framework for county-managed recreation facilities, open-space preservation and greenway planning. Staff said the plan incorporated public input gathered during the outreach phase.
