Muskegon County committee approves airport RFQs, FAA grant application and one‑year engineering contract extension

Airport staff described the RFQs as planning documents for projects scheduled between 2026 and 2031 and said the new solicitations will cover work beyond the scope of the current contract. "All the projects that are underway now were under the current contract… so this is for future planning," said Ken, acting airport director.
The committee authorized the airport to apply for a FY2025 FAA-sponsored airport improvement grant of $243,233 to replace airfield guidance signs, with a local match not to exceed $6,081; the chair was authorized to sign required documents. Commissioner Cook moved the grant authorization and Commissioner Nash supported the motion; the measure passed unanimously.
The port director reported operational data for a short-term DECT service: "We're at 288 pass total passengers so far, which is already the third most this year in a month that we already are typically slowing down. So we're projecting with the Thanksgiving holiday to be somewhere around 600, which would be close to the most of any month this year." He also reported that a roof project caused leaks that damaged an x-ray machine and that a replacement unit was expected in the first week of December; the director said repair/replacement costs are "only covered by insurance, hopefully." Staff also noted that the checkpoint x-ray scanner is doubling screening time and needs replacement.
Finally, the committee approved a one-year extension to the existing contract with CNS Companies to provide project engineering services in support of the Muskegon County Airport treatment program for FY2025 and authorized the board chair to sign required documents.
All airport-related motions on the agenda were adopted by voice vote during the meeting; no dissenting votes were recorded in the transcript.
