County counsel told the Orange County Board of Supervisors that the board met in closed session under Government Code section 54956.9(d)(1) and "unanimously approved a proposed $100,000 settlement in the matter of Yvette Agrilar versus the county of Orange." The counsel said the settlement resolves a claim arising from a motor-vehicle collision in which an Orange County Animal Care vehicle collided with the plaintiff's Volvo, causing personal injuries and property damage.
The counsel added the agreement is "subject to the final approval of others," and that once the settlement is finalized, copies of the agreement will be made available "through the office of CEO risk management." The counsel also reported that, beyond the settlement, the board "took no other reportable action" in closed session.
The board did not disclose the identities of any movers or seconders for the action in the public report and no vote tally was spoken on the record beyond the counsel's characterization that the board acted unanimously. The counsel's remarks are the only public account of the closed-session outcome provided at the meeting.
Next steps identified in the public report are administrative: finalization of the settlement by any required parties and distribution of copies through CEO risk management. No additional instructions to staff or follow-up items were announced on the public record at the meeting.
