Residents and community groups urge action on roads, aging services and youth engagement at Merced County meeting

Several community members and agency staff spoke during the Jan. 14 public comment periods.
Felicia Gray, Deputy Director of Adult and Aging Services, invited residents to participate in focus groups to help develop a local aging and disability-friendly action plan aligned with California’s Master Plan on Aging; groups begin Jan. 29 in Planada and an online aging forum is set for Jan. 23.
Cheryl Lynn Rawls described repeated problems with the court self-help center, including missed responses and incorrect eviction dates across several cases, and said her complaints to court staff have not been resolved.
Victor Vigil urged the board to repave and improve safety on Burke Crane Road between Natwater Boulevard and Natwater Jordan after decades of wear and increased traffic; Supervisor Lloyd Perera said the item had been forwarded to Public Works last summer and staff are working to place it back on the roads list.
Jesse Arnallis of the Youth Leadership Institute said youth leaders will push two county-directed campaigns: formation of a county youth commission to provide youth input in decision-making and exploration of a budget reserve for youth services; he said his group will reach out to supervisors ahead of budget talks.
The board heard these public comments before moving on to scheduled agenda business.
