Board authorizes public works director to waive routine nonprofit encroachment fees

The Mariposa County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously April 8 to delegate authority to the Public Works Director to waive encroachment fees and road-closure fees for longstanding nonprofit events that submit encroachment permits and request a fee waiver.
Public Works Director Shannon Hansen told the board such waivers are routine — many events have existed for decades — and bringing each one individually to the board consumes staff time. Hansen said staff would retain all required documentation checks, including certificates of insurance and other liability paperwork, and only new organizations or novel events would be brought to the board for review.
Supervisor Manatray moved the item; Supervisor Kaiser seconded. Board members asked that the department continue to verify required paperwork and affirmed the delegation as a staff-time-saving measure. The motion passed 5-0.
