Butte County restores and extends library hours using Measure H funds; branches to reopen April 1

Wright said the board’s earlier direction and voter approval of Measure H provided funding to add 16.5 positions and expand branch schedules. The plan adds hours in Biggs (two full days), Chico (Mondays and a late Wednesday until 8 p.m.), Durham (Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays with a late Wednesday), Gridley (Thursday and Saturday with a late Thursday), Oroville (late Tuesday) and Paradise (Wednesday–Friday with a late Thursday). The change raises county library weekly service from 128 to 218 hours.
“Everybody’s invited to attend,” Wright said, announcing a celebration and mobile library outreach planned at each branch; the board approved the schedule and set an April 1 reopening date. Residents and library volunteers from Gridley, Paradise and other towns praised the restoration during public comment and urged the board to consider remote and formerly closed branches as Measure H revenue is spent.
Why it matters: Expanded hours aim to restore pre‑disaster and pre‑pandemic service levels, increase access for working families and students, and provide evening and weekend programming. Supervisors asked staff to monitor attendance and adjust hours if needed.
