Michigan Senate receives audits, four executive orders and multiple appointments, then adjourns for lack of quorum

The Senate also recorded messages from Gov. Gretchen Whitmer. The reader announced four executive orders from the governor: Executive Order 20252 (a declaration of a state of emergency), Executive Order 20253 (an amended declaration), and Executive Orders 20254 and 20255, which suspend certain motor carrier and driver rules during the state-of-emergency period. The presiding officer referred the executive orders to the committee on government operations.
Lawmakers were also presented with a slate of gubernatorial appointments. The reader listed nominees to multiple boards and advisory bodies — among them Dax Richter and Kelly Fidelli to the board of architects; Jeremy Schenck to the Michigan Asparagus Marketing Program advisory board; Deborah Guido Allen, Gregory Solwin and Archie Drake to the certificate of need commission; and multiple appointees to the Michigan Community Corrections Board, the Michigan Iron Industry Museum advisory board, the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and other state boards and commissions. The presiding officer referred the nominations to the committee on government operations.
With no quorum present, the presiding officer announced that the Senate would adjourn and “stand adjourn until Wednesday, April 9 at 10AM.” The presiding officer closed the session by stating, “The senate is now adjourned.”
