Applicants seek game‑room permits for two Groves addresses; Planning & Zoning to make recommendation

The Groves City Council and the Planning and Zoning Commission convened a joint public hearing on Nov. 18 to consider two specific‑use permit requests to allow game rooms and gaming machines at 5170 Twin City Highway (Lot 11.82) and at 5011 Monroe Boulevard (Food Spot Number 2, Lot 7). The notice was read into the record and the hearing opened under the City of Groves specific‑use permit ordinance.

Representatives for the proposals were recognized. 'Miss Tran' spoke for the Twin City Highway request and indicated she had met most requirements but still needed to update restroom information. Another applicant identified as Farouk said he had met requirements, described parking improvements and a designated handicap parking space, and said he was willing to make additional adjustments as needed to comply with city regulations.

Council and Planning & Zoning commissioners asked procedural and compliance questions; there were no property owners within 200 feet who spoke for or against either request. The council stated that the Planning and Zoning Commission will meet independently to review the applications and submit a recommendation to the council. No final council action was taken at the Nov. 18 meeting; a future council meeting will include final determination of the requests after receipt of P&Z recommendations.

The hearing record included contact information for Don Pedraza, building official, and noted the notice posting date of Nov. 14, 2024. The council also reminded interested parties of the procedural order for public‑comment (property owners within 200 feet, then citizens of Groves).
