Council approves budget amendments and contracts for splash pad upgrades

The Highland Village City Council on Dec. 10 approved a pair of budget amendments and awarded a contract for planned splash pad upgrades.
Finance staff summarized the budget amendment: the city will add $50,000 to the current $75,000 allocation to complete splash pad improvements now rather than in two phases, and will reappropriate remaining funds related to a canceled city fireworks event that crossed fiscal years. "We're adding $50,000 to current funding of $75,000 for splash pad improvements," Ken said during the presentation.
Parks staff described the upgrade, saying it will add vertical features to two areas of the splash pad (a five-arm dump bucket and misters in the lower area and three smaller features in the upper tot area) to increase play opportunities. The presenter gave the project cost as "$126,787.14" and said the contractor expects to complete work before the pool/splash-pad opening next season.
Council moved to approve the ordinance adopting the budget amendments (second reading) and separately approved the contract for equipment and construction services with Craftsman Commercial Playgrounds and Waterparks through the city’s cooperative purchasing agreement. Both motions passed unanimously, 7-0.
What’s next: Staff said the contractor anticipates completion before the splash pad’s opening next season; the project will proceed under the approved budget amendment and contract terms.
