Council approves Schneider Electric pay request; project update says 80% complete and no lead found to date

Mount Pleasant's council unanimously approved pay request No. 6 for Schneider Electric as part of the city's water meter replacement project.
Anthony and Schneider Electric staff presented project totals and the pay application; Schneider program manager Craig Messerink said the project has replaced roughly 4,854 meters to date and is about 80% to 82% complete. Messerink also said the project's first lead-and-copper report to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) detected no lead in the sampled portion of the installation.
Messerink demonstrated a customer-facing portal and mobile application that allows residents to link accounts to smart meters, see usage trends (hourly, daily, weekly), and receive leak-alert notifications. Staff acknowledged some residents encountered app compatibility issues on older phones; Master Meter is updating its mobile app to address those problems.
During council Q&A, members raised incidents where initial meter readings caused unusually high usage reports; staff said those cases are being addressed individually and urged residents to notify the city for investigation. The council then moved to approve the pay request and recorded a unanimous vote.
The project will continue to completion, and staff said remaining contract balances and final service-line evaluations remain in progress.
