Representatives of the Friends of Highland Village Parks Foundation described their reforestation plan: the foundation (formed roughly 18 months ago) will partner with the city to plant 13 trees along Briar Hill Boulevard on Nov. 9; volunteers will assist, an arborist will guide planting technique, irrigation is in place and publicity will be distributed in the Villager and utility bills.
The board also reviewed a volunteer wildflower-seeding program set for Nov. 2 at Copperas Branch Park, Victoria Park and Marauder Park. The city will supply seed and materials while volunteers provide labor; staff noted wildflower success depends on seasonal cold days and rainfall. Sign-ups were circulated via SignUpGenius and board members were encouraged to promote the events locally.
