Palmview Council Defers Vote on Fire-Station Management Agreement; Provides Construction Timeline

Council members discussed the new Palmview fire station project but did not take a vote on the project-management agreement because a total project cost was not yet available.

"Mayor, on this 1, based on legal advice, we're gonna use the proposed agreement. However, we don't have the total cost yet, so there's really nothing to vote on," said Unidentified Speaker 1, explaining why the council would not act on the agreement at this meeting.

Councilors provided a schedule for the project: design plans should be completed in January–February; preparation of construction documents could take an additional 30–45 days; the group said bids should go out by March–April and that construction could begin in late spring or early summer (May–June) once bids are awarded. One speaker noted the council hopes to have the project-manager selection completed before the end of the month so the team can finalize design-development work.

Officials also said an all-inclusive park planned for the same property will follow the fire station and be developed under the same design guidelines. The council indicated the fire station is planned for Marla Drive, "south of the express way," and discussed using CO money to maintain the old Palmview fire station and the station on Showers Road while investing in park and facility improvements.

Next steps described in the meeting: finalize the project-manager appointment, complete construction documents, publish the bid package on the announced schedule, and provide residents with an update in the end-of-year newsletter.
