Palm View approves $281,372 Operation Lone Star award for police overtime and equipment

The Palm View City Council voted unanimously to accept a $281,372 state grant under Operation Lone Star, funding the police department’s overtime, equipment purchases and patrol vehicles.
Chief Jose Trevino told the council the award marks a substantial increase from last year and that Palm View was one of three Valley agencies to receive the state grant. "This year, we were awarded $281,372," Trevino said, noting a $170,000 growth from the prior grant cycle. He said the funds are intended to support criminal interdiction efforts and to aid coordination with state partners.
Council members asked how the money could be used; Trevino said it would cover overtime, equipment and vehicle purchases and compared it to federal interdiction grants while noting this program is state funded. The council moved and seconded acceptance and the motion carried unanimously.
The decision follows the department’s recent Borderstar funding update, which staff said received a smaller $15,000 increase this year. The Lone Star award is intended to remain flexible for personnel and equipment needs while officers continue interdiction and patrol operations.
Council action: Motion to accept the Operation Lone Star grant was moved and seconded and carried unanimously. No further conditions were recorded.
