The Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners on March 18 recognized Louis Cooksey, director of the Gwinnett County Department of Transportation, as the 2025 Engineer of the Year.
Chad Wasdin of the county’s communications department introduced the recognition, saying the American Council of Engineering Companies presented the honor at the Georgia Engineering Awards on March 7, 2025. Speakers credited Cooksey with 25 years of service, oversight of a multimillion-dollar DOT budget, leadership of Gwinnett’s transit development plan and work on the Eastern Regional Infrastructure Project, for which the Water Resources Department received a Georgia Engineering Award.
Cooksey thanked Chairwoman Hendrickson, the board, the county administrator and his DOT staff for their support and said the award reflected teamwork across the department. Commissioners and staff joined Cooksey at the front of the room for applause and a photo.
No formal policy action or budget changes were taken as part of the recognition; the ceremony was presented as a departmental and county acknowledgment of his professional awards and leadership.
