Tamworth’s town administrator announced at the Sept. 5 select board meeting that she will give notice for mostly personal reasons and will remain through the end of the year to help with the budget and to train her successor.
The administrator read prepared remarks thanking staff, volunteers and department heads, credited individual department performance — including police, roads and library staff — and said she aimed to "make it as smooth and happy a transition as possible" while shepherding the budget and tax‑rate process.
Board members then reviewed market data and discussed how to advertise the vacancy. After debate about pay ranges and applicant pools, a motion to post the town administrator position at a salary range of $70,000 to $90,000 passed on a roll‑call vote recorded as 5 yes, 0 no. Board discussion repeatedly emphasized the need for strong budgeting and fiduciary skills in the job description and noted that the successful hire should be expected to work 40 hours per week.
Members also voted to approve the job description with recommended edits that move financial responsibilities to the top of the duties list and to circulate a final copy to the board before posting. The board agreed the bathroom and capital projects schedule should continue while the hiring process proceeds.
Next steps: staff will finalize the job posting and job description, circulate the final copy to select board members, and post the vacancy. The board discussed a wide advertised salary range to preserve flexibility depending on candidate experience.
