Tamworth hires recreation director Emily Nolan as town administrator, approves transition pay and training support

The Tamworth select board voted to hire Recreation Director Emily Nolan as the town administrator, starting Dec. 2, 2024, with a $72,000 annual salary, full benefits and a $2,000 raise scheduled for June 2, 2025 contingent on a positive six‑month evaluation. "I moved to hire Emily Nolan as the town administrator starting on 12/02/2024 at the salary of $72,000 with full benefits and with a $2,000 raise on 06/02/2025 contingent upon a positive evaluation at the 6 month point," a board member said during the Oct. 24 meeting.

The board approved the motion by roll call. It also approved temporary transition pay for Nolan: the board moved to pay her $35 an hour for training hours during the transition, with members clarifying that this training time counts toward her 40‑hour workweek rather than as overtime. "So that's part of her 40, not addition to her 40," one member said before the roll call vote.

Separately, the board approved engaging Keith Meyer on an hourly basis "to assist in ongoing training as needed at $35 an hour." That motion was seconded and approved, the board said, to provide additional support while Nolan assumes the administrator role. The board noted Nolan is already participating in training and that the formal pay change to the administrator salary will begin after the vote.

The board did not identify additional conditions beyond the six‑month evaluation; members discussed vacation and accrual questions and confirmed Nolan will retain previously accrued vacation from her prior town role. The board also voted earlier in the meeting to post the recreation director position as applicants are sought to fill that vacancy.

The select board will oversee the administrator transition in the coming weeks and the new hire will begin official duties on Dec. 2.
