Council approves five-year, interest-free purchase of Stryker cardiac monitors and power-load systems

Jacksonville — The City Council approved the purchase of new Stryker emergency medical equipment under a five-year, interest-free repayment plan.
City staff outlined a package that includes six Stryker LifePak 24 cardiac monitors, four Stryker power-load systems and four Stryker cots to modernize equipment across ambulances and fire apparatus. A Stryker representative attended Thursday’s meeting to answer technical questions.
Staff said the city would capture an estimated $62,000 in trade-in value for existing equipment and that the monthly payment plan — five equal interest-free payments — is lower than the city’s previously programmed capital approach. "We would get about 62,000 for the equipment we trade in, and we would get 6 cardiac monitors," a staff presenter said.
Councilwoman Letitia Horace moved to approve the purchase and the payment plan; the motion was seconded and carried. Staff noted the recent ambulance-fee adjustments would help cover the long-term debt service associated with the purchase.
The contract includes equipment to place cardiac monitors on pumpers (non-ambulance fire apparatus) so crews have immediate monitoring capability on scene. Finance and fire staff will finalize the payment schedule and asset-tracking procedures.
