The Kennedale Parks and Recreation Board on Dec. 10 discussed developing an annual park survey to track progress on maintenance and prioritize park improvements. The item was for discussion only; no vote was taken.
Parks staff recommended a checklist-style survey that board members could use during walkarounds to identify needed repairs, equipment upgrades, fencing, lighting and signage. "What I could suggest is that you all come up with a checklist," said Christian, a parks staff member, urging the board to present prioritized results to city council so the council can set funding priorities. Staff noted past work from a similar survey led to projects such as a splash pad and a new playground.
Board members said the survey could help the board be more proactive and provide accountability by tracking completion of recommended items. One board member said safety and security should be the top priority and urged the board to ensure amenities serve all ages, not just children or teens.
Staff also asked the board to clarify who would compile the survey results and present them to council. The board chair asked members to bring written ideas to the next meeting so the group can consolidate priorities and develop action items.
No formal motion or vote was recorded on the survey; the board will revisit the item at a future meeting.
