Huntington Township supervisors on Dec. 12 flagged a $90,000 line item for the Greenbrier culvert while the roadmaster said broader culvert work will require additional prioritization and funding.
"The big item is the 90,000 — that's for the Greenbrier project," Speaker 1 said while presenting the bill list. Roadmaster Chuck told the board his crew inspected all township culverts and "found 18 of them that need replaced within the next year," and reported the township has 237 culvert pipes in total. He said the crew replaced eight culverts this year and nine last year.
Chuck also gave a construction update on the Greenbrier culvert: crews have faced rain and some flooding, one foundation has been hammered and is set to form, and one foundation remains to be completed before the structure can be set.
The board did not vote specifically to authorize additional funds beyond the bill list approval; members discussed using state‑fund balances and prioritizing projects if funds are insufficient. Speaker 1 said culvert deterioration "didn't go bad overnight" and that the township will address replacements based on urgency and available money.
Next steps identified by staff include permit follow‑ups and contractor scheduling; the engineer also reported related culvert permits are under review or awaiting issuance for other roads. The board's adopted budget provides the spending framework they will use to prioritize the identified replacements.
