School committee approves FY26 capital‑projects list for town manager review

- Additional camera coverage request ($75,000) to extend school and town facility surveillance beyond the high school and police station upgrades previously funded; initial $200,000 security project in FY25 was scaled back and $120,000 was appropriated by town meeting. - HVAC chiller replacement at Blueberry (presenter estimated around $700,000); the current chillers date to early‑2000s renovations. - Stadium‑field implementation pending a consultant assessment (the assessment was funded at about $60,000; full implementation could be a multi‑million dollar project depending on recommendation for turf, track, bleachers and accessibility). - Carpet replacement phase‑1 (elementary schools) estimated at $100,000; districtwide painting need noted but capital eligibility disputed by town capital committee. - Technology priorities: wireless access‑point and switch replacements (phase 1, ~$260,000), projector/smartboard replacements ($50,000 phase 1) and a direct fiber connection to the police station ($25,000) to support Westcom connectivity and surveillance access.
The committee moved to approve the prioritized list for submission to the town manager and voted unanimously to do so; the town manager and capital planning committee will review department requests and recommend items for the annual town meeting warrant. Committee members noted realistically only one or two projects may be funded given the annual capital allocation (~$2.1 million).
