MSBA accepts Longmeadow into Center School accelerated repair program; committee signs initial compliance certification

The Longmeadow School Committee on Nov. 14 heard that the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) accepted the district's application into the Accelerated Repair Program for Center School. The superintendent said the notice arrived Oct. 30 and that inclusion in the MSBA pipeline will speed selection of a design team and move the district toward a schematic design for a roof replacement.
"The envelope of Center School clearly needs attention," the superintendent said, and noted the town has already set aside funds for feasibility and schematic work. Committee members asked how the MSBA process works and when construction might start; the superintendent said once a district is in the pipeline "it does move as quickly as public projects can move" and that MSBA will assist with identifying a design team and contractor.
A committee member moved to approve the MSBA initial compliance certification associated with the Center School roof replacement accelerator repair program and to authorize the chair and the superintendent to sign the certification. A second was recorded and the motion passed unanimously on roll call.
