Manvel — The City Council approved the first reading of an ordinance to increase water and wastewater rates by 6.3%, a change staff said would produce roughly $136,000 in additional revenue for the utility fund.
Finance staff Rosie told council the increase would raise the average resident's bill by about $9.99 per month. Councilman Bonner moved to accept the ordinance and Councilman Hudson seconded; the motion passed on a recorded 5–2 vote.
City staff said the revenues will support the utility fund; council members had no substantive amendments. The manager and finance staff indicated the change is consistent with prior budgeting work and requested staff follow up once final firm numbers are available.
