The Manvel EDC voted to authorize one board member to attend the Texas Economic Development Council (TEDC) basic economic development course and discussed budget and scheduling for travel.
Tammy reviewed course dates and the $800 course fee; board members discussed the total estimated cost including hotel, per diem and mileage. The board’s conferences and meetings budget is $6,000, and members estimated that sending one volunteer plus paying for course and travel could approach $3,000 per attendee. The board approved a motion to authorize one board member to attend and discussed whether the February session in Waco or the June session in Austin was preferable. The board also agreed to revisit an additional request (payment of tuition for Chris Durette) on the January agenda as registration details become available.
Members suggested sending someone whose term extends beyond early reappointments so the EDC would retain an accredited person for lead generation; staff proposed that if the EDC funds an attendee it should ensure someone on staff or a long‑term board member holds accreditation to retain continuity. The board authorized the single attendee by voice vote.
