According to Elwood, officers responded within minutes to a report of a vehicle crash; witnesses helped identify a suspect who later was found hiding in a greenhouse. "Detective Bishop ended up locating and arresting the suspect with the assistance of ..." Elwood said, identifying the suspect as a 17-year-old from Connecticut who was taken to juvenile court in Providence. The chief emphasized there was no weapon observed and no evidence that people were in immediate danger.
Elwood credited mutual-aid partners and town staff for rapid coordination and discussed traffic-mitigation work at the Washington County Fair, noting the department's planning reduced backups and worked with navigation apps to manage flows.
The report included a public reminder to secure vehicles and personal property to reduce thefts.
