Richmond authorizes hiring of Derek Adams as probationary police officer

The Richmond Town Council unanimously authorized the hiring of Derek Adams as a probationary police officer and approved his enrollment in the regional police academy beginning in January. Chief Johnson (as recorded in the meeting) said Adams passed a thorough background investigation, a psychological evaluation and the department’s fitness and agility standards, and praised his community rapport and work ethic. The chief noted Adams has prior experience as a Cherry Hill wrestling coach, holds a bachelor’s degree in sports biology and exceeded minimum fitness benchmarks repeatedly.
Councilors moved to authorize Adams’s hire, placed the motion on the floor, and approved it by roll call. Members welcomed Adams to the department and thanked staff for their work processing the hire.
