Summary
Superintendent presented RISE test results showing gains in elementary and middle grades—Grade 3 ELA rose from 55% to 67%, Grade 7 math from 60% to 72% and Grade 9 math from 22% to 40%—and board members called for continued targeted interventions, especially in upper-grade language arts.
Superintendent Ron presented end-of-level RISE testing data to the Morgan County School Board, highlighting several year-over-year gains and noting areas needing further focus.
"Grade 3 English language arts saw a significant jump, from 55% proficiency to 67," the superintendent said, and he reported that grade 7 mathematics improved from 60% to 72%. The superintendent also noted grade 9 mathematics rose from 22% to 40% and grade 9 science from 37% to 55%. He cautioned that while the aggregate numbers show overall growth, some grade-level and school-specific gaps remain, particularly in higher-grade language arts.
Principals and school staff attributed gains to coordinated interventions and collaborative grade-level work. A principal identified improved Tier 2 interventions and curriculum alignment as contributors; another reported a temporary staffing absence had depressed math results at her school the prior year and that a new curriculum this year should better align with state standards.
Board members thanked administrators and teachers for the progress and asked staff to continue monitoring outcomes and to provide targeted supports where scores lag. No formal votes were required; the board directed continued tracking and follow-up in future reports.
