District advances CTE center plan and shop construction; utilities tested, foundation in place

The Morgan County School District announced progress on two fronts: a proposal to formalize Morgan High School as a district CTE (Career and Technical Education) center, and construction milestones at the new maintenance/shop addition.
The Superintendent described the CTE-center effort as a tailoring of services to local needs rather than copying another district’s model. "This will allow for expanded expansion of our specialized programs and... clear pathways for students interested in technical careers," the Superintendent said, adding that the district’s CTE director has pursued state funding that "will provide 43 additional WPUs to cover administrative costs" if the district qualifies as a CTE center.
Robert Kilmer, the district's CTE director, gave the board a shop-construction status report: utilities including the new water main and sewer main are installed and the water main was tested today; footings and foundations are in place and backfill and interior work (vapor barrier, slab pour) are scheduled after the Christmas break. Kilmer said favorable weather has allowed continued progress and that if backfill proceeds quickly the project could be slightly ahead of schedule.
The board also discussed specific logistical items, including a possible door modification to allow direct movement of wrestling and cheer mats into the entry center; Kilmer said he had contacted a Fairway Glass representative (Cade) to evaluate converting an existing door.
What happens next: staff will return in January with further administrative details for the CTE-center designation and continue to update the board on construction milestones and any schedule changes.
