Board elects Paula Raikstra chair, swears in members and honors outgoing trustee

Judge Jason Ramey administered the oath of office to new and reelected members. Several members said "I do" as they were sworn to support the U.S. and North Carolina constitutions and to execute the duties of their office. The board presented Brett Huss with a plaque thanking him for his service "from 02/2016 to 02/2024," and several members and family joined for photographs. "Your dedication has enriched the lives of students and inspired all of us for your service from 02/2016 to 02/2024," a plaque reading was announced.
The board then moved to nominations for board leadership. A member nominated Paula Raikstra for board chair; the nomination was seconded and Raikstra was elected unanimously by voice vote. Kimberly McMichael was nominated and elected vice chair by voice vote. Members congratulated the new officers and discussed committee assignments and priorities for the coming year.
During early agenda handling a member moved and the board approved an amendment to the consent agenda to add Reedsville High School's HVAC vendor approval (the board noted funds for the HVAC had been previously approved but the vendor/contract required placement on the consent agenda).
The board also approved the consent agenda and the 2025 meeting calendar earlier in the meeting.
The board recessed briefly after recognitions, heard limited public remarks and proceeded with action items and reports.
