District updates board on Kids Companion program; staff recommends maintaining recent rate increases

Miss Ward, the district childcare specialist, reviewed rate changes adopted last year and in June that affected registration, supply fees and daily care: registration increased by $20, supply fees by $5, before care rose $1 per day, aftercare rose $2 per day, before‑and‑after combined rose $3 per day, and the all‑day rate rose $5. Staff said those increases went into effect in June and helped stabilize summer programming.
Staff reported revenue figures for the program: last year's summer revenue was reported in the presentation as 146,194.3 and this summer's as 185,000. For monthly comparisons, staff cited October revenues rising from 65,871 in the prior year to 78,487 this October, a difference of about $12,000. Staff credited a Stabilization Grant and the rate increase with helping the program return to a positive position after a prior audit that showed it had been operating in the red.
Presenters said the grant supported technology upgrades, supplies, staff bonuses and some family supports. They recommended maintaining current rates for now and said staff will reassess in spring 2026‑27 if increases are needed for the 2027‑28 school year.
Board members asked programmatic questions including summer field trip plans and logistics; staff said they were planning a mix of trips tied to site themes and highlighted the program's increased enrollment at several locations.
