The Josephine City Council adopted an ordinance approving the city’s budget for the fiscal year beginning Oct. 1, 2024, through Sept. 30, 2025, after a public hearing that produced no speakers. Council members asked staff to provide additional detail on consultant expenses and timing for major projects.
Council scheduled a public hearing on a proposed maximum property tax rate of 0.468097 per $100 valuation for Aug. 20, 2024, at 6 p.m., and required publication of the notice in local newspapers and on the city website. The motion to set that proposed rate passed on a council vote with a roll-call recorded at the meeting.
During debate, a council member asked staff to provide a clearer breakout for consultant costs after finding a discrepancy in last year’s ClearGov entry; another member asked whether the community center’s completion and final payments could carry into fiscal 2025. City staff said the community center remains on track but that timing and final closeout details may extend into the next fiscal year.
The council’s action approves the operating and capital spending plan for FY 2024–25 and begins the statutorily required public-notice process for the proposed tax rate. The public hearing on the tax rate was set for Aug. 20; further budget details requested by the council were to be supplied offline by staff.
