DNR board approves Radley Creek land exchange and $175,000 Ice Age Trail acquisition

The Natural Resources Board approved two real‑estate items Dec. 11 presented by Jim Lemke, Real Estate Section Manager. The first is a land exchange in Radley Creek Fishery Area (Waupaca County): private landowner Richard Pachowski would convey 2.84 acres (appraised at $22,800) to the department in exchange for two smaller state parcels totaling 2.61 acres (appraised at $13,100); the department will add the 2.84 acres into the Radley Creek project boundary to improve public fishing access and reduce runoff risk. Lemke said Mr. Pachowski has paid for surveys and appraisal and will install and maintain fencing to delineate the boundary.
The board also approved purchase of 28 acres from the Ice Age Trail Alliance for $175,000 to extend Ice Age Trail development, add roughly one‑third mile of trail, and provide public access to Class‑I trout water frontage along Sains Creek. Lemke described the parcels’ conservation and recreational value and said the alliance facilitated a timely closing to accommodate the landowner.
Both items passed on motions and voice votes. Chair and board members praised the partnerships that enabled the transactions and recognized the conservation benefits and improved public access.
The department will proceed with the exchange and closing processes as authorized.
