Council authorizes assignment of town broadband contracts from Crocker to RingSquared; officials say protections remain

The New Shoreham Town Council authorized the assignment, assumption and consent allowing the town’s broadband contracts with Crocker to be assigned to RingSquared CC LLC during its Oct. 1 meeting.

Town staff explained the item grew out of an announcement that Crocker’s assets were being acquired by RingSquared. The instrument before the council would allow Crocker’s contracts for town broadband service to be assigned to the new entity that will administer the town’s internet service provider relationship. The council authorized the town manager to execute the assignment.

Unidentified Speaker 2 told the council that the documents presented "were very much in line with what we were looking for" and recommended authorizing the assignment. She said the town will carry forward all protections from the existing contract and that initial changes will focus on backend technology improvements and, over time, improved customer service responsiveness.

When a council member asked whether an assignment would affect residents who have outstanding installation damage claims, Unidentified Speaker 2 replied that installation and network management are handled by Certik, a separate contractor, and that assignment to RingSquared would not negate claims for repair.
