Council members introduced a draft resolution to create a vehicle- and micromobility-focused safety committee and discussed its intended scope.
The draft, circulated by a council member, was described as wide-ranging on purpose: it would include mopeds, low-speed vehicles, bicycles, scooters and similar devices and would invite participation from the police chief, fire and rescue, the medical center and licensees who rent vehicles. Several council members urged that the draft be broad enough to capture emerging devices such as single-wheel electric vehicles.
Councilmembers asked staff to locate the enabling documents from the town’s earlier moped-safety work and to prepare a redlined draft for future consideration; no formal action was taken at this meeting.
What’s next: staff will return a revised draft for council review and potential placement on a future agenda for action.
