Conservation commission invites Coastal Resiliency Committee to Jan. 14 meeting to align proactive priorities

The New Shoreham Conservation Commission voted to invite the Coastal Resiliency Committee to meet jointly on Jan. 14, 2025, to compare priorities and identify proactive items the commission should pursue.

Members noted the comprehensive plan contains roughly 20–25 items assigned to the conservation commission and discussed narrowing that list into a manageable, proactive checklist. Commissioners agreed to bring three topic suggestions each to the Jan. 14 meeting so the two committees can focus on areas of overlap and avoid duplicating efforts.

Carlos Salinas offered to compare the commission's list with the priorities already on the Coastal Resiliency Committee's radar and to prepare a memo that flags items that are already being addressed and items that may be neglected. The memo is intended as informational background for the joint meeting, not as a formal vote item.

Members also discussed involving town staff and outside experts where useful — for example, the town engineer (Jim Jermio) or representatives from relevant utilities — to advise on technical matters in future meetings. The commission agreed to a short hiatus until January, when the joint session and a follow-up discussion of proactive tasks will take place.
