New Shoreham Planning Board adopts state-conformance changes to subdivision rules

The New Shoreham Planning Board closed a public hearing and voted unanimously to adopt amendments to parts of the town’s Land Development and Subdivision Regulations intended to bring the code into conformance with changes at the state level.

The board’s chair opened the public hearing on the proposed updates to sections 5.01 (administrative officer), 5.05 (board of appeals) and 5.06 (appeals to the Superior Court), saying the changes reflect state law effective Jan. 1, 2024. Town consultant Karen (staff/consultant) told the board most of the language is state-driven and recommended passage.

A board member asked for clarification of the board of appeals composition; Karen said the zoning board generally serves in that role. After a short public-question period the chair moved to close the hearing, a motion that was seconded and carried with an aye vote. The chair then moved to adopt the listed sections; the motion was seconded and carried by voice vote.

The amendments were presented as technical updates to make the ordinance consistent with state law and to clarify local procedures for administrative decisions and appeals. No dissenting votes or formal amendments were recorded at the meeting. The board recorded the motion as carried and directed staff to forward the adopted language for whatever administrative steps are required for final publication and implementation.

What’s next: The changes take effect according to the town’s codification process and any implementation steps required by state or local filing rules. The Planning Board flagged no additional follow-up at the meeting.
