Grant writer says Scituate has federal and state submissions including $950,000 drainage request

Grant consultant Lisa Andosia presented the council with a summary of grants the town has applied for, secured and is pursuing, highlighting funding that could affect municipal services and facilities.
Andosia said the town secured a U.S. Department of Transportation grant that will pass through funds for a senior-center van and reported Department of Energy funding for HVAC upgrades. "The one that I'm proudest of is for the senior center van," she said, and added that the town’s application to the Rhode Island Infrastructure Bank makes Scituate eligible for climate-resilient infrastructure funding.
She told the council that a Dore Drive drainage infrastructure submission for $950,000 has been included in a congressional appropriations committee review and that outcomes likely will not be clear until after the general election. The town also submitted applications to secure two police vehicles and an animal-control vehicle, and worked with the chief on a COPS grant application aimed at hiring officers; historically Scituate’s COPS awards have funded one officer per award cycle.
Andosia said she can research potential CDBG eligibility for improvements at the senior center — HUD treats senior facilities as low-to-moderate income for some program purposes — and will continue to coordinate with DPW and other staff to compile budgets and applications. Council asked that a Rhode Island Energy complimentary audit of municipal buildings be placed on a future agenda for authorization.
