Scituate council approves routine licenses, hires, equipment purchases and grants in consent and business agenda

At its regular meeting the Town of Scituate Town Council approved a series of routine and capital items across consent and town-business agenda sections.
Licensing and appointments: Council, sitting as the Beverage Licensing Board, approved multiple liquor-license renewals (Scituate Liquor Shop; Cindy’s Diner Inc.; Ruffino’s Pizzeria; Marola’s Granite Farm Restaurant; The Village Tavern; Borna Bistro Inc.; Groundwater Cafe) and noted a separate Class B application was withdrawn. The council appointed Marty Bauer as a board of canvass member (term expiring Feb. 28, 2030).
Personnel and purchasing: The council approved hiring Beth Simpalas as the tax-collector clerk effective Dec. 1 at $25/hour. It authorized up to $30,000 from the recording-technology fund to buy shelving for a new records vault and approved the Hope-Jackson Fire Department’s request to buy turnout gear not to exceed $65,000.
Capital and grants: Council authorized acceptance of state Municipal Road and Bridge Program funds and empowered the Town Council President, treasurer and solicitor to execute documents. It approved purchase of two police cruisers and equipment not to exceed $119,200, to be paid from the detail account and police capital budget; members noted a related grant application that, if awarded, would provide additional equipment funding.
Trails and local projects: The Scituate Land Trust’s recommendation to award the trail-bench bid to Timber Homes Vermont (bid not to exceed $7,600) passed; part of the cost will be covered by previously approved ARPA and federal-grant funds.
Charitable activities and community notes: The council approved an IBPO Local 502 fundraiser extension (No Shave) and agreed to share a QR code/Venmo link for donations to the Believe Foundation and Special Olympics. Boy Scout Troop 1 later presented a trunk of canned goods and $900 in cash to the Scituate Food Pantry.
Items tabled or held: A Country Liquor Store renewal was effectively held to await a certificate of occupancy; the Joe Casale Engineering proposal to update the on-site wastewater management plan was held because the consultant left the meeting; the Institute Lane traffic/gate matter was tabled after public comment.
