Warren — Representatives of the Warren Preservation Society presented a $23,000 check to the Town Council and urged careful, staged repair work to preserve the town hall rather than full demolition.
In a brief presentation, society members thanked local businesses, members and other historic groups for support and said that discovery of chimney problems, leaks and the building official's input helped prevent demolition. A society representative handed the clerk a donor list and said, "So check for $23,000."
Council business that followed included interviews and appointments to volunteer boards. Sheila Raposa, who said she has lived in Warren 32 years and has professional financial services experience, was appointed to the budget committee after councilors who serve with her on other boards praised her work. For the voluntary historic district committee, the council appointed Scott Lyle after he described his long residency in the district and interest in preservation; Noah Vasquez, a recent architecture graduate who applied, was thanked but not appointed.
What happens next: Staff said preservation donations will be applied to the chimney repair expressly; council directed that donated funds be used for the chimney work first and that further restoration occur in incremental steps.
Provenance: Preservation presentation and donation appear at SEG 030–075; committee interviews and appointments appear at SEG 079–236.
