Charlestown commissioners receive housing needs analysis update, accept design-guidelines distribution plan

At the Nov. 20 meeting the Charlestown Planning Commission heard two administrative updates: the status of a housing needs analysis and the disposition of commercial and village design standards.
Planner reported the housing needs analysis report is being finalized and will be available before Thanksgiving; commissioners agreed to circulate the final report and a short summary ahead of a public workshop so residents can review recommendations in advance. "They have put together a final report, and ... it will happen before Thanksgiving," a planner said while describing outreach and the proposed workshop timeline.
Separately, commissioners were told the commercial and village design-standards report had been presented to and accepted by the town council. The report will function as design guidance and the commission and the Environmental and Infrastructure Committee (EIC) will schedule a joint workshop to address late technical comments and to discuss next steps for applying the guidance to permitting and development reviews.
Members also discussed the commission’s meeting schedule (first/third vs. second/fourth Wednesdays) after a commissioner reported conflicts with the current second-Wednesday slot; the planner will review town calendars and return with possible alternatives. The meeting ended after recognition of a departing commissioner and an adjournment vote.
