Student asks Belvedere to pilot sunscreen dispensers in town parks

A student presenter, Sahithya Raghupati of San Domenico School, asked the committee to consider installing sunscreen dispensers in Belvedere parks to reduce skin-cancer risk and increase sun protection access for children and other park users.
Raghupati said she surveyed more than 200 students and identified high-foot-traffic spots near parks as candidate locations. She told the committee the nonprofit Impact Melanoma provides dispensers prefilled with sunscreen; her figures: one dispenser costs $200, eight would cost $1,600, and annual refill costs would total about $600. She also reported field experience running a dispenser at her school, saying a 1,000 mL refill bag had lasted roughly a year in that setting.
Committee members thanked her and raised operational concerns: who would manage refills, potential vandalism or misuse (comparisons were made to maintenance issues with public water fountains), and whether the town has experience with similar dispensers. Tony and Jane suggested a pilot could be feasible and volunteered staff and liaison follow-up; committee members offered to talk with Tiburon and to scope a single-dispenser pilot.
Next steps: the committee agreed a member will take the lead to pursue groundwork with staff, obtain vendor details, consider pilot locations and report back.
