The Glocester Town Council voted to amend the employment terms of the town’s Building/Zoning Official, Dennis Begin, and to appoint an on‑call building inspector.
Under the approved change, Begin will continue as Building/Zoning Official at an annual salary of $48,000 plus $40 per inspection and will not receive town employee benefits, effective Sept. 1, 2024. The council reiterated the position’s responsibilities: plan reviews, issuing building, plumbing, mechanical and electrical permits, final sign‑offs after inspections, commercial inspections including after‑hours work, and acting as the zoning enforcement officer.
Separately, the council appointed Larry Desormeier as an as‑needed building inspector to perform residential and commercial inspections at $50 per inspection, effective Sept. 6, 2024. The appointment includes consideration for necessary equipment, an iPad and a $50 monthly reimbursement for business use of a personal phone. The council noted the position serves at the pleasure of the council and will be up for reappointment in January of odd‑numbered years.
Councilors discussed the need to hire a part‑time inspector for residential inspections and clarified the town’s plan for scheduling and responsibilities under the new arrangement.
