The ratified motion made the appointment effective Sept. 9, 2024 at an annual salary of $70,000; the salary will increase to $72,000 upon successful completion of a six‑month orientation. The position accruals were read into the record and the council recorded that the new tax collector must obtain the Rhode Island Tax Collector Certificate within three years of appointment.
Because long‑time tax collector Jane Steer is retiring, the clerk and finance director discussed temporarily adding deputy town clerk signatories to maintain at least two authorized banking signers until new staff training is complete. Council sought consensus to place the temporary appointment on a future agenda for ratification.
